Orchard Volunteering Day Sunday 30 May 2021

Calling all plotholders,

Orchard volunteering day and mini plant sale

  • Sunday 30 May 2021
  • 10am to 12 midday and 2pm to 4pm

Weather permitting, we want to spruce up our communal orchard, mow pathways for easy access and clear grass around the trees, ready for mulching.

Help with:

  • strimming access pathways
  • clearing the area around the trees
  • mulching around trees

Please bring your strimmers, spades and rakes if you can. And don’t forget a thermos with some tea and biscuits.

Plant sale and seed donations

Do you have any surplus plants? Bring them along to sell or swap. After all, who needs more than four courgettes? Donations for the SRAA funds are welcome.

One more thing – do you have unwanted seed packets lingering in your seed tin? We are taking in donations of surplus seed for our friends at Edible High Town. An opportunity to clear out your stock and make space for the new season.

COVID-19 advice from the National Allotment Society

The National Allotment Society has published comprehensive advice on what to do during the Corona Virus crisis. Read full information at National Allotment Society – Coronavirus Emergency Measures >>>

NSALG recommended basic precautions

Any plot-holder who is self isolating because a household member is ill with corona-virus should not be visiting the site.

  • Keep hand sanitiser in your shed and wash your hands regularly
  • Use hand sanitiser before opening and closing any gate locks*
  • Observe “Social Distancing” with each other 2-3 metres
  • Do not share tools
  • Minimise the contact with each other, for example no handshakes

*Elisabeth comment: Sanitiser may need to be substituted with antiseptic wipes because at the time of writing this, gel and liquid sanitiser are very difficult to find in the shops.

Water switched off at mains

The water is now switched off at the mains for the winter period. Temperatures have been below freezing during the night.

The pipes and toilet cisterns have been drained. Please don’t leave any taps open.

It is still possible to use the site toilets. You can flush by filling a bucket from one of the water troughs and empty it into the toilet bowl.

UPDATE 24 MARCH: SITE TOILETS AVAILABLE AGAIN

SUNDAY 24 MARCH: Toilets are ok to use again.

————-

The Council has been working on this, today Wednesday 20 March. Hopefully, the work should be completed on Friday 22 March. But this is to be confirmed.

————

Please don’t use the toilets.
There is a problem with a blockage.
The Council will be resolving the problem week commencing Monday 4 March 2019.
Exact date to be confirmed.
Please check back for updates.
